Some people agree with me that Man of Steel is fantastic, others don't think so. They say that this movie is so dark, lack of jokes and boring. Oh come on, if you say so, then I bet you barely can stand enjoying Oscar-typical movies as a matter of fact that they are usually boring. So we can conclude here that Man of Steel is an Oscar-typical movie (that means that it is so damn hot as Henry Cavill performs his best on this movie -- hell yeah, he is oh-my-god hot). Probably. But I'm not sure that Man of Steel would be nominated for Best Picture. Best Cinematography... perhaps. But honestly I laugh so hard in the inside when I hear that people who don't like this movie are wondering about why Superman is not wearing his underwear in the outside. Come on, is it too mainstream? It is 2013, we don't want our children ask "why does Superman wear his underwear in the outside" right? So take it, Superman looks hotter without his underwear.
Let me tell you something; the easiest way to consider whether a movie is good and worth-watching twice or not is by how much a movie affects you after you leave the theatre. You might say that Twilight affects you so much but not to me. I am not a fan of "psycho"-flat-overrated teen romance" Twilight. And you can't affect me that easy. No hard feeling, okay?
Man of Steel still affects me (up till now -- at least while I am writing this review) after I left the theatre on Friday. I still remember how Krypton damaged, the cinematography of falling Krypton, the scoring, the fighting (that is somehow too much), how Kal-El finds out who he really is, his first flying... and so on. And I love it so damn much. Man of Steel makes me put more attention on Kal-El (actually I am a Batman fan and I really appreciate Nolan's work and movies, especially Inception and this one). So, before judging on a movie, you better watch it first. Compare your subjective view with others. Don't open your mouth too easlity. Don't believe on others' point of view of a movie. They barely know anything about movies. They only critisize and complain and complain and complain without opening their mind that there is something simple and pure about movies: they all are made with love.
This is my second favorite superhero movie after Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy! I think Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan (and don't forget the touching scoring composer, Hans Zimmer -- whom Nolan works with in The Dark Knight trilogy and Inception) are a very good combination of making a high quality superhero movie. However, I totally realize that there are some people that don't agree with me. They say this movie is such disappointement. Well, why don't we get this clear here?
I understand that they are disappointed because they expected this Superman movie not as dark as Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, perhaps, yet not as simple as Marvel movies. They complained about the lack of jokes which I thought that jokes never suit Superman (as his life is hard, he was bullied when he was such a little boy, and so on). This is DC Comic, for God's sake, not Marvel. If you want jokes, watch Iron Man.... The Avengers. For me, Man of Steel is beyond my expectation.
Although the story is not built as strong as Batman Begins and the drama is not as great as Oscar-winning movies, Man of Steel has built a new version and level of a superhero movie. Nolan had brought a new dimension of superhero movies when he decided to reboot Batman in 2006, and he did completely succeed. I think this is how perfectly we create a world of superheroes, this is how we should make a superhero movie... with a realistic touch of a talented and genius director, Christopher Nolan (Nolan and Goyer write the story -- they also write The Dark Knight Trilogy).
I must say that this movie is recommended for Nolan and Snyder fan, especaially, and Marvel fans as well because it is a dark, well-written movie. The drama part is not strongly built. Yet, if you are a superhero movie, go and watch this movie in a cinema. You'll get fascinated by the cinematography, scoring... and the mighty Henry Cavill.
I gotta compare Man of Steel with Iron Man 3 that was released months earlier. I gotta say that Man of Steel is more unpredictable than Iron Man 3 that is in my first 20 minutes when watching, I said to myself.... "the ending of this movie is going to be...." as it is a lot of more predictable and the plot is sooo lame. Man of Steel is BETTER than the other movie. Admit it, buddy.
Well, I guess I don't find any weaknesses of this movie. There is no plot hole. One thing I would highlight is that if the story is built more strongly and dramatic, I would probably give 9/10 for this movie. However, I was so damn satistified after coming out of the theater that means that this movie is fantastic to me.
This movie is worth 8.3/10
Man of Steel is worth a sequel and I begin hoping that Justice League of America will be produced soon as I want something bigger than 6 superheroes fighting an alien (The Avengers). Come on, why needs 6 superheroes to fight a dumb-powerless villain Loki?
